Note: I have included apps which are suitable for kids even though they are not included under Alexa Kid Skills.
That said, you will have to enable Kid Skills availability on your Alexa Echo device. You can do so by going to the Settings section of the app > Alexa account > Kid Skills. Turn on the toggle which says Allow Kid Skills. There is one more thing you should know which I have shared at the end of the post. Let’s get started with these skills:
1-2-3 Math
It’s one of the best apps around Maths which has three difficulty levels making it possible to be played by kids of any age. It asks a series of questions which includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, comparison etc. Some of the questions on the hard level are not the only tricky but might need some fast calculations to be performed.
What I really loved about the skill is that it’s like one of those buzzer based games which keep the kids on their toes, makes them concentrate, and ensures they reply back clearly.
Rock Paper Scissors
This game is a heck of a fun, and you can get along with your kid to play it as well. All you need to ask Alexa if she would play Rock Paper Scissors and keep going all day. It’s a very popular game for kids, and fun way to keep them engaged when it’s raining outside! Just say “Alexa Start Rock Paper Scissors” to get started.
Byju’s
Byju’s is a well know online learning center where kids from class 4 to 12 can learn and practice the well-researched content across Math, Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths. Alexa can tell you interesting facts across these subjects and the skill is constantly updated with new content.
Chhota Bheem Adventure
This is an extremely popular Cartoon series in India which features Chhota Bheem, the kid superhero. This skill brings in original voices of Chhota Bheem, Raju, Chutki, and other friends. Apart from this, the background sound effects are also available while using it. The skill takes your kid through missions with voice interaction. Apart from Chhota Bheem, you also have other popular cartoon character skills like Suppandi, Shikhari Shambhu, Amar Chitra Katha and more.
Categories Game
This game helps kids learn, and makes one think of words from different categories. As per the app description, it stimulates your grey matter in this engaging game! In this game, you will be presented with different categories and asked to come up with a word that begins with a certain letter in each category. As you keep going ahead, you will unlock more categories. And so on…
Adventure Ride with Mike: Forest Fortune
This is another treasure hunting skill which will indulge kids in an interactive session of King George’s hidden treasure. Kids are asked to interact with animals, and humans to find clues and also learn facts about King George’s hidden treasure. The progress is saved in case your kid has to move out for an important work.
Speech Ninja Math Puzzles
Let’s do maths again! This one asks you to determine the next logical number in the sequence. It’s pretty simple but super effective for toddlers between the age of 2 to 3 years. The numbers are also shown on the home screen of the app or the screen on Echo Spot or Echo Show.
Pronunciation
This is a definitive skill if you want your kid to learn proper pronunciation. It works for most of the English words, and it’s impressive to see how it pronounces each of the alphabets clearly. All you need to say is one word, and it will break it into individual alphabets, and help you learn the correct pronunciation.
Gamify learning with PlayAblo
Update: Sadly, this skill has been removed. PlayAblo is a gamified learning and assessment platform for English Grammar, Communicative English and Mathematics. Built especially for India and completely aligns itself with the latest CBSE and ICSE curricula. It offers thousands of short 7-question quizzes that slowly increase in complexity. Once enabled, you will need to link PlayAblo account to Alexa account. The service offers a free plan which your kid should be able to use to start. The service also features gameplay elements like points, leaderboards and peer-to-peer competition and so on.
Animal game
It’s time you test Alexa. Have an animal in mind, and Alexa will ask you questions, in series, to figure out which animal you have in mind. Questions could be as simple as What color is it? Can it fly? Does it live in hot climates? and so on. Kids get a sense of being in-charge and use all their knowledge to stump Alexa. This skill has over three hundred animals in their database and also tells some interesting facts about the animal when it gets it right. And yes, for toddlers, you can simply say “Alexa, play animal sounds” and Alexa will be able to mimic hundreds of animal sounds.
Panda Rescue
This skill is to help your kid become responsible for taking care of a virtual Panda. They get assigned as caretaker of an orphan baby panda and teach important life lessons by making the right choices as they move through the game. A very important life skill for kids.
Chronicles of Appu’s Adventure land
This skill is designed to help develop and improvise listening, comprehending and problem-solving abilities in little children. It starts with Appu’s missing key which should be found using clues. As the game progresses, themes like Farm, City, and Adventure show up with their own experience for kids to learn.
Millionaire Quiz Game
It’s a very popular game, and if your kid is good at Quiz, he/she will love this Alexa skill. This Alexa skill rewards with virtual money so the kid keeps learning more and more about different topics. This game has over 2500 questions and can not only keep just your kid busy but the whole family engaged. Which of these Alexa Kid Skills is your favorite? Let us know in the comments section below.
