The count of megapixels the Huawei P30 Pro comes with, all cameras combined. The sum total of cameras present on the back alone is 68 megapixels (40+20+8). When this is added to the 32-megapixel sensor on the front, the total moves up to a massive 100 megapixels. This is a really impressive number, simply because it backs the camera on the P30 Pro with megapixel muscle. The company has not given megapixel count for the ToF sensor present on the back. But these are easily the most megapixels we have ever seen on a phone camera.

Now, 40 megapixels may not sound as impressive, knowing that 48 megapixel is the popular megapixel count floating around in the smartphone camera ocean, and at prices way lower than that of the P30 Pro (hey, the Redmi Note 7 Pro starts at Rs 13,999) but those extra 8 megapixels have got nothing on the P30 Pro’s camera and software muscle combined. The main sensor of the P30 Pro comes with a Huawei SuperSpectrum sensor and has a massive f/1.6 aperture, which is a setup from the f/1.8 aperture on the P20 Pro. The image quality produced by the P30 Pro is far better than most 48-megapixel sensors we have seen on smartphones and it can be easily dubbed as one of the best cameras in the smartphone world right now, if not the best.

The number of cameras that the device sports on its back. At first glance, it may look as if the Huawei P30 Pro only houses three cameras but there is a tiny fourth camera placed just below the flash. The smartphone comes with the Leica Quad Camera system which comprises a 40-megapixel main camera. This main sensor is supposed to do all the heavy duty work like capturing detail and colors. Smartphones have been a little handicapped when it comes to optical zoom. We have generally been offered 2X optical zoom but matters have not really progressed too far beyond that number. The Huawei P30 Pro has changed that. The smartphone comes with a huge 5X optical zoom, thanks to a periscopic arrangement. Having 5X optical zoom means not only will you be able to zoom in without actually moving but unlike digital zoom where you lose out on detail when you zoom in, optical zoom takes you closer to the subject without compromising on detail. If the 5X optical zoom has not really impressed you, then we are pretty sure the 10X lossless zoom that Huawei P30 Pro brings to the table will surely do. Having 10X lossless zoom onboard means the device can take you up to ten times closer to your subject without really losing a significant amount of detail. This is not like optical zoom where the lens is physically moving and is actually taking you close to the subject without any loss in detail but is like a much better version of digital zoom where the loss in detail is next to negligible.

The Huawei P30 Pro is already miles (or actually 5X and 10X) ahead of most smartphones when it comes to no loss or next to no loss zoomed images, but there is more. The smartphone has set a new record when it comes to digital zoom as well. It comes with a massive 50X optical zoom which, quite frankly, changes how you look at your subject. This is because the 50X digital zoom helps one capture subjects which otherwise would not be visible with the naked eye. Yes, the shots turn out to be grainy and there obviously is a huge loss of detail but the sheer ability to get 50 times closer to the subject with just swipe of a finger is huge plus point for the Huawei P30 Pro. Anyone who has used a big zoom lens knows that stability is one of the major issues that come with them. Which is why many photographers prefer to use tripods with zoom lenses. But setting up (and carrying) a tripod for a phone every time you want to take a zoomed-in shot would be a bit much, wouldn’t it? But you do not really have to worry about that with the Huawei P30 Pro. Unlike most smartphones that offer optical image stabilization (OIS) in one of the sensors (usually the main), the P30 Pro actually offers OIS in two sensors, making the smartphone much more stable than its competitors in the market. Yes, having double the OIS does not mean your camera is totally shakeproof but it definitely makes it much more stable which is required with a 50X digital zoom. The results bear it out.

While the primary camera of the Huawei P30 Pro is getting all the attention, thanks to the Leica Quad camera system, most have been ignoring the 32-megapixel front-facing camera on the smartphone.
