So if you are in the market for a phone with a pop-up selfie camera, go right ahead and check these options:
Vivo Nex – the one that started it all
Rs 32,000 (approx) The phone that started the whole pop up camera trend, the Vivo Nex is beautifully crafted and also comes with some very high-end hardware – a 6.59 inch Super AMOLED display with full HD+ resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8 GB RAM and storage variants of 128 GB and 256 GB. It also comes with every connectivity option you would want, an under display fingerprint scanner, and a very good pair of rear cameras (12 and 5 megapixel). However, what made the phone really stand out from the crowd was the 8 megapixel pop up camera that slid out from behind the display whenever needed. It took some very good selfies, and well, even today, the Vivo Nex remains perhaps one of the best flagship devices with a pop-up camera, but if it is sheer pop up camera magic that you are looking for, then it perhaps is not your best option.
Oppo F11 Pro – the Oppo kid on the pop-up block
Rs 24,990
Oppo joined the pop-up camera phone race recently with the F11 Pro (the brand had earlier opted for a slide out camera to avoid notches). The phone comes with a large 6.53-inch display and is powered by the very efficient Helio P70 processor, accompanied by a very healthy 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB and 128 GB storage options. It has a powerful 48-megapixel rear camera paired with a 5-megapixel depth sensor. And when it comes to the pop-up camera, it comes with a very good 16-megapixel one which pops up right from the central part of the upper portion of the display. It is a bit on the large side and the camera unit jutting out of the center of the back is a slightly odd sight (some might also be a little put off by the old world fingerprint scanner on the back as well), but it can certainly deliver a decent pop-up selfie experience.
Vivo V15 Pro – high tech for the mainstream
Rs 28,990
The Vivo V15 Pro borrows the best from the Vivo Nex and adds some flourishes of its own. It comes with a 6.39 inch full HD+ AMOLED display, with an in display fingerprint scanner and a beautiful gradient finish back that shimmers in the light. It was the first device in India to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 processor, paired with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage (expandable), making it apt for hefty gaming and multitasking. It also featured a triple rear camera arrangement of 48 megapixels, 8 megapixels and 5 megapixels, allowing users to capture images with breathtaking detail and color. And then there was the front facing camera – the camera elevated itself out of the back of the display when needed and then returned to its housing unobtrusively, so quietly and smoothly that you would barely notice it. But before it went back it would have taken some brilliant selfies thanks to the 32-megapixel sensor!
Vivo V15 – simply the best value for money
Rs 23,990
The Nex had the hardware, the Vivo V15 Pro had the megapixels on the rear camera, but if you are looking for one great phone with a terrific pop-up camera, then the vote unabashedly has to go to the Vivo V15. It may not have the Pro moniker but it actually has a larger 6.53-inch display with full HD+ resolution. It also has a beautifully crafted back that reflects light in dazzling patterns and comes with a powerful Helio P70 processor, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. Its triple camera set up comprises a 24-megapixel main sensor, an ultrawide 8-megapixel sensor, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. But most importantly, it brings the same 32-megapixel pop-up camera that rocks the V15 Pro to users at a much lower price. That, some funky software (Funtouch OS on top of Android 9) and a large and quickly charging 4000 mAh battery clearly make the V15 our favorite when it comes to phones with pop up cameras. The best selfies with a big display and a big battery, combined with the latest Android and a killer price tag is an irresistible combination.
