What’s Changed on the Redmi Note 6 Pro from the Redmi Note 5 Pro

If we have to be concise, the display is now bigger and has a notch with dual front facing cameras rated at 20+2MP. The rear camera has received an upgrade as well and is now the same sensor as the Redmi Note 5 AI from earlier this year which is a 12+5MP setup with an f/1.9 aperture and 1.4 micron meter pixel size.

What are some key specifications of the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

The main highlight of the Redmi Note 6 Pro is the new 6.26-inch Full HD+ display with a notch. Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC which is the same as the last-gen Note 5 Pro with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The rear cameras are 12MP and 5MP along with an aperture of f/1.9 on the primary lens. The front facing shooters are rated at 20+2MP. The battery follows the legacy of the Redmi Note line-up and features a huge 4000mAh capacity.

What software does the Redmi Note 6 Pro run on?

The Redmi Note 6 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with MIUI 10 on top. MIUI 10 is a feature-rich interface and while I wished to see Android Pie out of the box, MIUI doesn’t really feel different despite the Android version so this shouldn’t be much of a deal breaker.

Are there multiple variants of the device that will go on sale?

Yes, the Redmi Note 6 Pro will be sold in 2 variants. The base variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and the top-end variant with 6GB of RAM and the same 64GB storage.

Does the Redmi Note 6 Pro come with a headphone jack?

Fortunately, yes! It’s been relocated from the bottom to the top now which isn’t really the ideal location for me, but hey, it’s at least there!

Can the notch on the display be hidden?

Yes, the rather larger display notch can be hidden from the settings menu.

Is there any display protection on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Yes, the front is protected by an unspecified version of Corning’s Gorilla Glass.

Is there support for dual 4G VoLTE on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Yes, dual 4G VoLTE is supported which means you can use two Jio SIMs at a time.

How are the cameras on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

The dual rear cameras perform well in daylight conditions and while the phone struggles a bit in low-light, it does hold its own. Is there any sort of stabilization for the cameras on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Yes, the primary camera on the rear offers EIS while the front facing camera has no such specified support.

What is the maximum resolution for video recording on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

The Redmi Note 6 Pro can record video up to a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30fps on the rear camera. Even though the chipset supports 4K, it is disabled by Xiaomi for some reason. The front facing camera as well has been capped at 1080p for video recording.

Does the Redmi Note 6 Pro support fast charging?

Technically, yes. The Note 6 Pro does have support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 but the included adapter in the box supports only 10W charging so you will have to invest in a Quick Charge compatible charger.

Does the Redmi Note 6 Pro have a USB Type-C port?

Unfortunately, Xiaomi is still sticking to the micro USB port for the Redmi Note 6 Pro. Hopefully, we might get to see a Type-C port next year.

Is there support for face unlock on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Yes, face unlock is present and accounted for, however, it isn’t that fast and secure so we would suggest using the fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication instead.

Does the Redmi Note 6 Pro have an IR blaster?

Yes, Xiaomi has retained the IR blaster on the upper bezel which can be used to control home appliances.

Is there support for gesture navigation?

Yes, MIUI 10 on the Note 6 Pro supports navigation gestures which according to me is one of the best implementations of gesture navigation on Android.

Is there a notification LED on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Despite having a rather large notch, Xiaomi has retained the notification LED and decided to forgo the front-facing LED flash instead.

Is there support for OTG on the Redmi Note 6 Pro?

Yes, OTG is supported.

Yes, there is a soft TPU case within the box which can protect your phone from minor scratches and scuffs.

Is the Redmi Note 6 Pro water resistant?

The Redmi Note 6 Pro features a special P2I coating which adds a layer of splash resistance which means it can take some accidental spills but that does not mean you can use the phone under the rain or in a pool.
