The Redmi Note 8 Pro has a powerful chipset mainly oriented towards gaming. The MediaTek Helio G90T is a very capable chipset, due to which the Redmi Note 8 Pro can play PUBG at the Smooth+Extreme graphics setting which gives a frame rate of 60fps. This is the only device in the Rs. 15,000 segment that offers this. Along with performance, the Redmi Note 8 Pro also trumps every other phone in this segment in terms of cameras. The primary 64MP camera can shoot great pictures regardless of the lighting conditions and to go along with it are three additional cameras that can shoot in wide-angle as well as a dedicated macro lens.
What are some negatives of the Redmi Note 8 Pro?
While this isn’t exactly a con, the battery on the Note 8 Pro is a 4500mAh unit, but in our usage, it didn’t seem to last us as long as we would expect a phone with this kind of battery capacity to last. It might still get you through a complete day depending on your usage, but we expected slightly more. Another con would be the fact that MIUI displays ads within the phone’s UI which can be a hindrance in the user experience. Also, the phone tends to get slightly warm on using it for an extended time outdoors under direct sunlight. Nothing alarming though.

The MediaTek G90T is a gaming-oriented chipset and performs well in both CPU and GPU intensive tasks. The thermals are slightly on the higher side at times, but the raw power of the chip is certainly evident.

There has been some stigma surrounding MediaTek chipsets in the past, but none of them are credible anymore, at least with the G90T. Yes, the phone does tend to get slightly warm on prolonged usage, but it’s surely not a deal-breaker. The Snapdragon 845 is a mighty powerful chipset so if performance is of top-most priority to you, the Poco F1 is still a great purchase. PUBG fans, the Poco F1 is for you. However, the Redmi Note 8 Pro does better in pretty much every other area. It’s built with better materials, has better and more versatile cameras, better display with a smaller notch and equivalent battery life.

Performance while playing PUBG is no doubt great on the Note 8 Pro. However, at times, we observed frame-drops at hot drops or during intense fights which can be crucial. This isn’t very regular, but if it sounds like a major issue to you, the Poco F1 or even the Realme XT can be an option.
